The best way to hit your 2020 goals

Anyone else broken their New Year Resolution?

Mine went by the end of Jan 2nd

Why?

Mainly because I hadn’t told anyone what they were, so I wasn’t accountable to anyone but me.

I don’t know about you but if I want to make a change in my life (large or small) I have to be accountable to somebody. I know I can do pretty much anything if I have to report back.

I’m not the only one … otherwise most businesses wouldn’t bother with Management meetings. Who else completes their ‘Actions List’ the evening before the meeting? Without having to report back, a lot of projects would never get started let alone be completed!

It’s true at home … I go to the gym regularly … but only because I see my PT every month. And it’s true at work. Last year I told my mother that I was going to write a book … I had been thinking about it for years. A few months later I told another family member they would get my book as a Christmas present.

It was only once I had created that pressure to deliver that I set about creating my plan of action. Only then did I put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and wrote the book I’ve been thinking of writing but doing nothing about.

Step Out From the Shadows: How to be seen and heard at work was published in December of last year just in time to catch the last posting day for presents!

So, if you are looking to achieve something this year … by all means set a goal. But make yourself accountable – (tell someone else and create a way for them to check up on you), create a plan and take action. Then anything is possible.
